Race: Half breed Infernis/Giant.
Class: Guardian.
Age: Mid forties.
Look: Very tall, muscular, ashen skin with two very prominent horns. Has
an eye on his tongue. Has trouble finding boots that fit so he is often
barefooted which is a constant source of vexation.
Virgil was raised in a small village populated by giants by his mother (a giant). He knows little of his father; his mother was always cryptic and dismissive when asked about him. Virgil grew slowly and was smaller than the other children due to Infernis maturing more slowly and living longer than giants. Near the age of ten he began growing horns on his head, which led to bullying. The villagers shunned his mother and life became very difficult. Eventually they were both driven out of the village.
They wandered together for about a decade, taking work doing physical labor whenever they could find it. In his mid-twenties Virgil reached his full size and began working as a guard escorting caravans, which paid better. A decade later, in his mid-thirties, news reached him that a meteor had fallen on the city of Drakkenheim. Hearing this, his mother sent him to Drakkenheim, promising that he would find answers about his origin there. She gave him a mysterious key said to unlock something in the cursed city.
Virgil reached Drakkenheim escorting a caravan. On arrival, one of the passengers mentioned he had work for him: a senior member of the Hooded Lanterns who had been impressed by Virgil during the journey. He spent a few years working with the Hooded Lanterns. While he appreciated the regimented way the Lanterns operated, he was not from Drakkenheim and did not share the city’s patriotic sentiments. Despite this, Virgil proved to be a reliable guard and true to his word, so the Lanterns occasionally called him back for work.
The situation in Drakkenheim is chaotic. What about this do you find most objectionable?
That power might land in undeserving hands.
Which tenets of order do you cling to the most when you deal with chaos?
Keep your word. Hold others to their word.
How many of your ancestry whin in Drakkenheim before the catastrophe?
A handful of giants. No infernis that I know of.
What superstitions about Drakkenheim do you believe?
Virgil is very superstitious so he believes most of what he hears regarding superstions.
A few stand out:
Makis Trifillakis: I intervened when he was being bullied. Has extreme views about trees and plants but otherwise cool. Also has horns but his are more… goat-like.
Magic Mike: He fed me his last food. Fun to be around. Gave me a precious artifact (moonstone) which I treasure. Also, he’s a talking mushroom.
Mia: Travels with Mike. Smart and quick-witted. I have much to learn from her.
Faradrim: I was tasked with collecting his gambling dept. He talked me out of it and we became friends. We have a common contact in the Hooded Lanterns which we both respect.
